How to scan a QR code on a laptop

Laptops rarely have a built-in QR reader, but the webcam and your browser are all you need. You can also read a code that is already on your screen.

Your browser will ask for camera permission. Camera access needs HTTPS, and on iPhone it needs Safari.

How to do it

  2. Code on your screen?

    Take a screenshot (Windows: Win+Shift+S, Mac: Cmd+Shift+4), then press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V on this page.

  3. Read the result

    The decoded link, text, Wi-Fi details or contact appears in the Results panel. Nothing is uploaded.

  4. Open or copy

    Open the link, copy the text or save the contact, whichever you need.
